The Story

Mann’s Point is located in a lower north shore suburb of Sydney. The suburb derived its name from its antipode, the Greenwich banks by the River Thames in London. The Parramatta River is also known as the “Thames of the Antipodes.”

The Cammeraygal clan was the first resident of the area. The Aboriginal people lived here until the 1830s, but disease and displacement drove them out later.

George Green built the Greenwich House in 1836. It is a double-storeyed house made with sandstone blocks and is still at the corner of St Lawrence and George Streets.

The house was sold to Gother Kerr Mann in the 1850s and ran in the Mann family until 1949.
